ABOUT GADS

Groombridge Amateur Dramatic Society – better known as GADS - has been performing and entertaining for over 60 years.  We put on three plays a year – spring, summer and winter – and are located in the beautiful village of Groombridge, on the borders of Kent and East Sussex, just an hour outside London.

We are a friendly group, welcoming newcomers of any age and ability, whether you want to act, direct, help out backstage or just come along to have some tea and/or read-in at rehearsals.  We’re pretty sociable – as well as plays we also organise play readings, soirées, workshops, and theatre and cinema outings.

Our summer productions, performed over two weeks, are held outdoors in the beautiful gardens of Birchden in Groombridge, where audience members can picnic before the show.  We specialise in Shakespeare, but over the years we have also performed Brecht, Shaw and Goldsmith amongst others. Spring and winter find us in the village hall, where as well as two weekday nights of the play only, at the weekends we offer our popular supper nights with a two-course meal. We have a licensed bar for all our productions!
